Custom Rifle Grips with the MESHPRO Grip Configurator

A rifle grip is far more than just the connection point between the hand and the rifle. Especially in shooting sports, the ergonomics of the grip influence comfort, repeatability, and ultimately performance in competition. While standard grips are often only a compromise, individually adapted grips allow for a much more natural and stable hand position.

With the MESHPRO Grip Configurator, this customization process takes a major step forward. Instead of relying on traditional molding methods or extensive manual modifications, the grip can be digitally adapted to the shooter’s hand.

Why Custom Rifle Grips Matter

Every hand is different. Finger length, hand width, pressure points, and overall grip posture vary from shooter to shooter. As a result, standard grips rarely provide a perfect fit.

An individually adapted rifle grip offers several advantages:

  • a more natural hand position
  • improved pressure distribution
  • a more stable shooting position
  • better rifle control
  • higher repeatability
  • increased comfort during long training sessions and competitions

In precision shooting, even small ergonomic differences can have a noticeable impact.

The Digital Path to a Custom Grip

We have been working with individually adapted grips for many years, initially focusing primarily on pistol grips.

For these applications, we developed an AI-based hand scan system that has been trained using thousands of datasets. Based on photos of both sides of the hand placed on our reference sheet, a digital twin of the hand is created. The grip is then digitally adapted to this model.

In addition, we are able to scan existing grips and reproduce them using our MESH structure. We have now transferred this experience to rifle grips.

Naturally, ISSF regulations had to be taken into account, as air rifle grips may not be fully anatomically shaped to the shooter’s hand.

However, meaningful ergonomic adjustments can still be made based on the shooter’s hand geometry.

Within the MESHPRO Grip Configurator, users can individually configure features such as:

  • individual grip size based on hand scan
  • thumb rest shape
  • grip angle
  • custom engraving

One particularly interesting feature is the ability to adjust the grip angle individually. Angle adjustments of up to 20 degrees are possible.

These larger angle adjustments are especially beneficial for benchrest and supported shooting disciplines.

Over the past few years, we have also significantly optimized our production processes.

While average production times previously ranged from eight to ten weeks, custom grips can now typically be delivered within four to six weeks.

The Advantages of the MESHPRO Mesh Structure

In addition to customization, the material and structural concept also play an important role. The characteristic MESHPRO mesh structure provides:

  • pleasant haptics
  • excellent grip
  • improved ventilation
  • reduced sweating
  • evenly distributed pressure points

Due to the reduced contact surface created by the structure, pressure points on the hand feel more comfortable and evenly distributed. At the same time, the open structure improves airflow — a noticeable advantage during long competitions or warm conditions.

Weight Savings and Balance

Especially in rifle shooting, weight plays an important role. Thanks to additive manufacturing and the open mesh structure, MESHPRO rifle grips can be made significantly lighter than conventional grips. The reduced weight allows shooters to optimize rifle balance more freely by positioning weights elsewhere on the rifle.

This additional flexibility is particularly valuable for ambitious and competitive shooters.

Additive Manufacturing for Maximum Customization

The grips are manufactured using 3D printing. This makes it possible to create highly individualized geometries that would be difficult or impossible to achieve using traditional manufacturing methods. At the same time, adjustments can be implemented quickly and efficiently. The combination of digital hand scanning, AI-supported analysis, and additive manufacturing opens up entirely new possibilities in ergonomic sports equipment.

Who Are Custom Rifle Grips For?

An individually adapted grip is suitable for both ambitious hobby shooters and high-performance athletes.

Customization is especially interesting for:

  • shooters with ergonomic issues
  • competitive shooters demanding maximum repeatability
  • shooters looking to optimize rifle balance
  • anyone seeking greater comfort and control

Conclusion

Custom rifle grips offer clear ergonomic advantages in shooting sports. With the MESHPRO Grip Configurator, the customization process becomes digital, precise, and significantly more efficient.

The combination of hand scanning, individual adaptation, additive manufacturing, and the characteristic mesh structure enables modern rifle grips with high comfort, improved ventilation, and precise ergonomics.

Especially in precision shooting, the connection between hand and rifle can make a decisive difference.
